Community Engagement… And Boats!

Community Engagement… and Boats!

Following the development of an MMORPG from such an early stage can be an exciting venture, which can greatly test your patience. It goes without saying that Pantheon has allowed supporters and fans to get an earlier look than most. However, with an active and engaged community, the conversation is always flowing. Spof has been a long time member of the community, and spends most of his time communicating in our official Discord. After 5 years of following steadily, his passion is on display across all topics of development and mechanics that players interact with across the MMORPG spectrum. Learn a little bit more about him in this week’s community feature.

Hi, Spof! Why don’t you go ahead and tell everyone a bit about yourself?

Sure thing and thank you for the opportunity. Been a gamer for years and years, fell in love with the old arcade games, then tried my first console called the Magnavox Odyssey and loved it. The first time I got to play PC games with any consistency was when I bought a Tandy 1000 and had a blast on the old Avatar games and Space exploration games, of course having to stop to replace the floppy and then hit continue was the norm back then. Nowadays, I am a bit more selective on what I do for games, so sometimes there is a gap between any consistent gaming. I prefer MMOs or team-based big FPS games, both have not been popular as of late, but I hope we get to see more in the coming years.

How long have you been a member of the Pantheon community?

Been a member for a little over 5 years, started on the forums and then migrated over to the Discord where I can usually be found posting daily in most of the chats.

What attracted you to the game?

Much like you have heard from many here, it shares some DNA with old Everquest, while still being a very different game. What appeals to me are things such as the ability to connect with a group and getting to know the people you play with over an extended period of time. I also value when a game allows us as gamers to work towards achieving things in a game where just a dungeon crawl is an exciting adventure. It appeals to me that none of us are playing the role of the game’s hero, but instead are just living our day to day lives within the framework of an open world.

Do you think that being active within the community this early is important?

Very, both for the excitement of seeing the inside story slowly unfold around us, much like a flower opening to the welcoming warmth of the morning sun, to the ability to offer an opinion of support or sometimes a suggestion to maybe look at something in a different way. It is not just the PA Test time that matters, but also Discord time with the Devs. Whether participating in a conversation with us or watching us debate back and forth the merits of this approach or that approach, which can be very exciting at these stages.

What’s your favorite platform to talk about all things Pantheon with your fellow community members?

It is always going to be Discord. While I will very rarely use the forum, I love the back and forth chat on Discord, which is much more real and exciting to me. On the forums, people tend to give much deeper thoughts to everything and I feel that leaves some of the passion out of the mix, but in Discord, you must react to the comment or have it scroll by and be lost to time.

Out of everything released to date, what are you most excited about for Pantheon and why?

Hmmm, that is a great question and while I would love to say everything, the truth is the economy. To me an exciting game has a great and vibrant economy and that much if not most of it is Player to Player with some NPC interactions. The economy touches almost all the other spheres in the game from the Crafting Sphere to the Adventuring Sphere, so it is a big responsibility. If you ask me what I would be most excited about for a potential future Pantheon, it would be without a doubt BOATS! Having islands, player boats, underwater cities and of course fishing and sunken treasure ships, is all on my future Pantheon wish list.

Do you have a Class and Race combination picked for your main character yet?

I do not have anything specifically picked out to play at the moment. Traditionally I play a support role but have been playing outside of my usual comfort zone during testing. I really want to try all the characters I can up to at least level 20 to get a feel and then decide. I do tend to not play the more popular classes, but instead what is most needed for my group/guild.

What kind of player are you and do you have a guild? (PvE, PvP, RP)

Hmm, what kind of player am I? I guess it depends on the type of game. In a game like Pantheon, I am generally a PvE person, but I am currently playing Mortal Online 2, which is very much a PvPvE game. I do love PvP, but it has to be the right game for it. I never really RP in PC games, but I have done LARPing before, which to me is totally different from roleplaying in a video game. I currently run with a guild, while not a fixed member at this time, it is usually the same group of us for every test session. The good thing about that is getting to know each other and how we work together.

If you could name any item in-game what would it be and why?

Sphere of Complexity: This would be a rare dropped item that could be used by different types of crafters and would allow a crafter to give an item an added ability, therefore increasing the item’s complexity.

Thanks for joining us, Spof, is there anything you would like to say to the Pantheon community?

Just that there are plenty of opportunities for fast food out there, but Pantheon is more like a 5-course meal, with a different chef preparing each course. It is worth the wait and going to be one heck of a dining experience when it is released!

Thanks to Spof for sharing a bit about what drives him to support Pantheon, as well as keeps him active in the community. Catch up with him in the official discord.

We are thankful for the amazing stories our community has shared thus far with us. Do you have a story about how MMORPGs have made a difference in your life? Has it driven your creative urges?
