Stopping to Smell the Roses

Stopping to Smell the Roses

Pantheon’s community already inspires players of all types to dig into the development of the game, and help support us along our way to launch. Whether a player wants to press themselves hard to be the best they can be, with endless sessions of grinding, or wants to simply take the world in and meet others – the world of Terminus will be welcoming to all types. Today we highlight an amazing member of our community from “across the pond,” who has incredible experience within the MMORPG genre. From hearing the interaction of a Moose and Dog in Alaska, to tackling some of the harder dungeons and raids of games past – Pada has seen a bit of it all. Join us in learning more about her, and the pieces of Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen she gravitates towards.

Hi Pada, why don’t you go ahead and tell us a bit about yourself?

I live in the North of England with my husband. I am 73 years old, have 4 children, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way in December.

How did you find out about Pantheon?

That’s easy, I googled the name, Brad McQuaid. The reason was to see if he was working on anything that would give me the same joy as Everquest. My son and his wife introduced me to a new game they had bought, EQ, when I was recovering from a car accident, which put paid to my favorite pastime and put me on a long road to recovery. Apart from poker and backgammon, I didn’t play online games.

What draws you into the Lore of Terminus?

In real life I love ancient history, especially the enigmas you find – carbon dating reveals a few of those. Historical texts are often written in a biased way so looking at the Folk-Lore around in the same time period and area can be helpful. Lore in an MMO is one of the most essential ways to add depth and a rich enjoyable texture to one’s journey through Terminus. Writing that story well is, in my opinion, one of the most important parts of the game.

How do you feel about exploration?

Exploration is essential to me. I don’t know how many character slots we will have but if possible I plan on making a character of each race in each starting zone. That will be the start of my exploration.

Do you like to stop and smell the roses for the experiences or race to the end for fame and glory?

Stop and smell the roses all day long, no rush.

Do you like to group up and explore with others or go about your adventures by yourself?

If I know I can play for a decent amount of time, grouping is the best way. I often solo if I can’t commit to a set amount of time, nothing worse than leaving a group in the lurch halfway through a dungeon. I have a feeling the Keeper line might be mostly solo, not sure about that of course

How do you feel about raiding and end-game content?

I loved raiding in EQ and EQ2, I haven’t stayed with other MMO games to get to raiding. My first ever raid with Anthem on Eci was Vex Thal, it took eight hours, luckily they got better, that was a great guild.

Having so many amazing years of gaming under your belt, what is a memory that stands out the most to you still to this day?

This might seem odd to most, I can’t remember the date but I was in a pick-up group and we were using Ventrillo. Every time the group leader spoke there was an awful racket so I asked him what the noise was. He was in Anchorage, Alaska, there was a moose bellowing in his garden and his dog was barking at it. I was just full of awe,I was sitting at home in England and I could hear what was happening in his life in Alaska. Remember, when I was a child of 4 the whole street piled into the only house with a tv to watch the Queen’s Coronation, people didn’t have a phone in most homes, we had a radio with two stations – Home and Light. I have lived through a really interesting time in history. I wonder what age it will be called in the future?

Are you part of a guild or group that you regularly play with?

I am part of the Old Timer’s Guild which I saw on the Pantheon Forums so I applied, I thought I must surely qualify. I have played with members in testing and they are the most friendly and helpful bunch of people you could ever wish to meet. I recently paid a sub for a year on EQ2’s time-locked Varsoon server while I await Pantheon.

Finally, is there anything you would like to say to your fellow community members?

I would like to say to community members to be patient, and have faith it is worth waiting for something as great and magical as I expect this game to be, onwards and upwards!

We would like to thank you for your support and sharing a bit about yourself with us Pada. We can’t wait to hear your stories from within the world of Terminus, as you explore every nook and cranny.

We are thankful for the amazing stories our community has shared thus far with us. Do you have a story about how MMORPGs have made a difference in your life? Has it driven your creative urges?
