Dev Diary: A Glimpse of What’s in Store for December

Dev Diary: A Glimpse of What’s in Store for December

by Nephele

Hi Pantheon Community. Hopefully you are all enjoying our latest update. The entire team poured a lot of time and love into the Wildbloods, the Wizard Updates, and some of the other things that we just released this week, and we were all really excited to get it out into the game for everyone to experience. Please rest assured that we’ll be listening to your feedback and working to squish any bugs that you encounter.

We are coming up on the winter holidays soon, and that means both an exciting and busy time for us as game developers. On the one hand, just like everyone else, holidays are an important time for us to take time out for ourselves and our families. On the other hand, holidays are also some of the busiest times for our game, and we all care very deeply about providing our players with the best experience possible. Many of us will be working right up until the holidays, and we hope that many of you will be able to play and enjoy Pantheon over the holidays as well.

With that in mind, I wanted to talk a little bit about what’s coming up in December… and maybe a little bit beyond that. 😊

Coming in December

In December, we are planning to release the first iteration of our mounts and taming system. Once this system enters the game, you will be able to tame wild horses and use them as permanent mounts. The horses will be found in various places throughout the world, and there will be different qualities and rarities of horses that you can tame. Joppa has a dev diary coming up next week that will explain the entire system in much more detail, but this is a big system for us to get into the game. We will be starting with horses, but in the future, there will be many other types of mounts that you can tame.

Why mounts now? To answer this, we can take a look back at a previous dev diary.

“The answer, simply, is that tamable creatures are meant to appear in many of our overland areas. Getting the system in now allows us to add those tamable creatures as we build out new zones, instead of having to come back afterwards and try to add them to those areas. This will also allow us to dial in travel speeds so that our mounts are both useful and desirable as our world continues to expand.”

Looking Ahead

In the background, we have a lot of work going on to prepare for some major updates to the game next year. You have already heard about some of the content we are working on (and there is a lot more after that), but we also have some major gameplay changes coming for the adventuring and crafting spheres of the game. These include changes to existing systems as well as some core functionality that we have wanted and needed to get into the game for a long time. All of this is based on taking a close look at player feedback so far during Early Access, as well as our own observations about what we need to do to bring our gameplay into its final form to support our 1.0 launch.

We will be starting to talk about the details of those upcoming changes and what you can expect during December. There will be a lot to cover, and at the end of it all we will include a roadmap update for the first half of next year so that you can have an idea of when all of it will be happening. I promised the team that I wouldn’t spill any secrets too soon, but trust me, it will be worth the wait.

As always, the team will be actively reading your feedback on our latest patch and taking it into account as we move forward with our planning. In the meantime, for our US players: please have a happy and safe Thanksgiving!
