Can't go wrong with Turtle Beach imo (https://shop.turtlebeach.com/us/) I've spent literally thousands of hours wearing their headsets and had no problems - even their less expensive ones.
I'm using https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013P0K8OE/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 G633 headphones from Logitech, and they are very comfortable. This is the first pair of headphones I've had that I could sit with on my ears for hours on end. In the past, every so often I'd have to take them off to let my head and ears rest.
I especially like the oversized ear pieces, because most others either sit on the edges of my ears, or the edges of my ears pushed up against them from the inside. These fit comfortably around my ears.
I have a Turtle Beach PX22 headset and I love it. The earcones are large enough that they don't cause pain on my ears/top of head and the sound cancellation (outside sound) is great. (Sorry husband, I really didn't hear you trying to talk to me.)
It has a seperate adjuster box for my sound and microphone input/output.
Turtle Beach and Astro A40 or A50 get my vote, both I have used for years and both have a lot more pros than cons but essentially it comes down to your personal preference, comfort and sound, on those points, I would recommend both Turtle Beach and Astro headsets but I don;t have much experience with anything else other than cheap headsets from years ago.

I second this. I have a pair of Turtlebeach headphones as well (Earforce X12s). Haven't had any issues with them.
I own a pair of Sennheiser HD 558 Around-Ear Open Back Headphones - Black, even with my glasses on they never cause me any discomfort.

I've been using Senns for as long as I've used headphones for gaming and having been really happy with them as well. Good sound, comfortable yet sturdy. Not cheap though.

If you're buying a 2in1 headset (Headphones & Microphone built together) you're doing it wrong. Up until 2015 I was a headset purchaser and then I learned the error of my ways. The BEST setup I've ever used are the two amazon links above. Unless you're spending 300+ dollars on a audio technica headset that setup beats it hands down. Those headphones are the best I've ever used for gaming. The mic has the same quality, or better, than any 2in1 headset under 300 dollars. With that setup you can either buy little clips that keep the wires together or tape them or just let them hang w/e. But whenever I see someone asking about knew audio I always try to show them their error as it was shown to me.
Here are the videos explaining in great detail the difference between headset and headphones, and difference between headphones and their types. I could write paragraphs but it's too early and I don't like writing, so enjoy the videos.

Been through so many headsets over the years doesnt bear thinking about the cost, usually logitec middle range ones. But last set I got where pricey I got 2 years ago and still going strong, very comfortable dont even notice I'm wearing them. Would buy them again without a second thought

Thanks for the info! Spent entirely too long last night researching headphones. lol Found a solution that should be way superior to a gaming headset for less than $100. We'll see! Excited to try it out regardless.

I ended up going with the Philips SHP9500 headphones (cheaper on newegg than amazon btw) and the v-moda mic. We'll see how it turns out. =)
