Quick update?

Pledged for champion status years ago (2018?) and just stopping by to see what’s up. Can anyone give a quick update on the status…a real update rather than fanboy hype? How can they still be in pre-alpha for 4 years? Literally, what part of development can possibly take this long?

Are they just running along on fumes trying to scrape as much cash out of “investors” to keep themselves employed, or is an actual game coming? Please spare the “they can’t give dates because dates are hard to keep” nonsense…game developers all over the world stick to schedules.

I would assume you are somewhat internet savvy and can look at the news page on this site and see updates in the MONTHLY Newsletter. You can also watch the latest Developer Roundtable which gives lots of updates. The latest Developer's Live stream also gives updates. Those are 3 things that are very easy to find if one is sincerely looking for updates and they answer all of your questions.

Your tone suggests a different motive though.

    • There is a PA happening in September for VIP and Scion of Black Rose pledge levels.
    • Cleric, Dire Lord, Enchanter, Monk, Rogue, Shaman & Wizard will all be playable for PA.

    • There are still no dates as you alluded too, however we were told that PA sessions will go into next year, so no Alpha this year.
    • There will be a live stream from CohhCarnage for the September Pre-Alpha, allowing many people to see the game live and the progress that has been made*:- https://www.twitch.tv/cohhcarnage

*It's believed that the stream on September with CohhCarnage will be without developers, however he hopped to have some devs pop in during the stream to talk with him, but this was not conformed. There is currently no date for the PA test, as such we have no date for the stream that will take place along with it during September.

Things are looking up!  Better than they have in years IMO.

Major milestones have been checked off the list (HDRP / Networking Stack).  New additional funding.

Yes, still in Pre-Alpha, but the list to Alpha is improving by the month and testing sessions are set to resume in September based off the CohhCarnage stream / roundtable.

Good times are ahead!  I go into hibernation as well from time to time, but it's about time to wake up and stretch those legs for some good memories to be created :)

Dude. Really? *sigh* You are pretty much implying dishonesty and/or incompetance from VR and trolling for reactions.

I'll bite, though. I will be reasonable, but you can expect some defensive reactive stuff. That's what you were after, yeah?

Not really if you actually want good info. What aspects? A great deal has happened and things are accelerating. You might have to make a personal effort if you're actually still interested.

Hmm, so, you're thinking a preemptive presumptive implied insult will stop informed backers from being positive and supportive when they have good reason to be like that? Maybe you're wanting some unfounded negative responses to make you feel batter about whatever conclusions you've invested? I think you've come to the wrong place.

If you don't want what you will assume are 'fanboi' responses, perhaps don't be aggressive toward the development in a fan forum?

If you really want a 'real update' read the monthly updates from the team. It doesn't take long. If you don't have that time you sure won't have time to play the game.

Or if you're implying the team are liars and cheats and can't be trusted with their updates then *shrug* you may as well give up on the project totally, no?

You knew it was a tiny independent crowd funded team back in 2018. It still has only the equivalent of 24 full time employees, and that has only ramped up recently. I doubt that much money (in terms of MMO development budgets) has been rolling in from pledges over the years, relatively speaking, but there is great news recently re invesment.

Big MMOs take way longer and are way more expensive than most other genre games to make. When independent, small and crowdfunded it takes even longer.

For example, NCSoft, a massive wealthy studio, apparently started Throne and Liberty in 2011. There are other examples of big rich studios taking ages. Why shouldn't VR take their time to do it right?

Again with the implied dishonesty... But they talked about that kind of thing recently, so perhaps check out the vids. It was never really in doubt to anyone watching closely that they try and be very efficient with the cash they have and are not taking big salaries while stringing us along. Some forwent any kind of payment for some time - I hope they are taking something for their efforts by now though.

Also talked about recently is the difference between pledgers and investors. They are not the same thing of course. The recent investors, totalling $2.4m and including Cohh Carnage, will have gotten a much deeper insight into the business than any of us and were convinved enough to put a lot of money in. If you somehow don't trust the devs, then that investment should reassuring. If it isn't then nothing will be.

I'll spare the "they can't give dates" comments because the devs themselves in the second-to-last vid with the CEO addressed that kind of thing directly even though it's common knowledge to anyone vaguely interested in game development that delivery dates are notoriously bad to deal with and especially for a non-traditional development.

How about you spare the uninformed negativity after admitting you haven't kept yourself informed?

    Closing this down.

If you wanted an update, plenty of information that is easily accessible would give you everything you need to know; instead, you decided to make a lazy, insulting post asking others to do the work for you.

Similar posts will be removed from now on, and further action may be taken depending on the implied intent.
