Getting a handicap and how to cure

I was thinking that if you die a horrible dead, being one shotted or fall from a great high or killed almost instantly by the atmosphere, maybe you shouldn't always get ressed without a remaining condition. Sometimes even a full res may result in you getting a handicap.

If you fall and your ankle get shattered it may leave you with a limp that will hamper your movement for a few %. Or a brain injury by being suffocated resulting in a % penalty on your meditation or regen.

To get rid of it you need a special treatment by a doctor. This could be done by player healer: maybe a dwarf cleric who are specialized in healing bones. Or an elf druid specialized in everything concerning brain conditions.

Each race/class combination could have their own speciality.

Another option would be to go to an npc healer in town: again each race would have their own specialities. It would give you an incentive to visit a special town.

Like in rl when you go to the US for that special cancer treatment that only can be given there. Or - as i read the other day in the papers - to Dubai where a doctor is that can treat special eye conditions that give people their sight back. People travel all over the world to find a cure with a specialist that is master in his trade.

Would be a nice twist to the death mechanic/penalty. If you take a SUBSTANTIAL amount of damage in one shot which causes your death you obtain some sort of debuff upon your rez.

i don't think that's a good idea. imagine you have a good group going and someone dies, getting a handicap. are you going to break up the group? does everyone wait half an hour until he got cured? or is the handicap so weak that is doesn't matter anyways? none of these bring anything good to the game. the need to run back, or wait for rez effects to wear off and med up, produce enough downtime.

Or a debuff to run speed- slight debuff. If you sprained your ankle, you can run, but you would limp a little and not run as fast. However, if you were grouped- the group would all experience a small debuff to run speed, since the group would be helping you along.

    - injured persons arm over the shoulder, healthy persons arm around the waist, one soldier helping a wounded soldier run from "Incomming!" kind of thing.

The group would share their healthiness as a group and improve the run speed of the handicapped party while grouped. The longer the handicapped party does not receive help the more time the delay in run speed affects the handicapped individual only.

Like Wizards and shamans need to med- maybe would require a healing class to concentrate  in the same manner as wizard and shaman medding on the handicapped parties injury to fully heal them. It sounds like small time sink but I think it would play out well in game if implimented.

So if someone fell from a cliff, the group would have to get the handicapped back to where they were- and all in the group would be slightly slower,(not as slow as the handicapped, ungrouped) until they could find a good camp spot to lay down the handicapped and allow the healer to concentrate on the handicapped party. The remaining members would need to fend off beasites as best they could during this time. The better the skills of the healer, the less time.

Cities provide faster recouperation (if not instant). So instead of finding a camp spot in the dungeon they can continue adventuring and then when done head back to the city, where the group would stop at a tavern or sell and the handicapped party would have to go to the healer, first.

And some cities may not have healers for that class so the handicapped would have to manage or rest enough until healed.

    -

Except for Skar Epic where the Skar has to level for 2 levels with one arm (because the other was cut off as part of the Epic quest) before getting a temporary club, and before getting the epic weapon to replace that arm < I am making this part up

Not really a fan of long term injuries but I did like some of the longer lasting disease debuffs that you could pick up in EQ 1.

I would always seek out a shammy after I picked up the crud to get it removed and that was a cool thing to have to do now and then.

Next time I see that diseased zombie I won't be so quick to engage,

    Thanks in advance,

    Kiz~

So kind of like enhanced resurrection effects?

In general, I think it is a cool idea. Kind of like how in some games you can be cursed, but a normal dispel magic does not remove that. In this case, a normal resurrection may bring your life back but not fix other issues that may require additional healing methods.

    Joppa, your turn.

In Archeage, they do 2 things when you died to an NPC.  First, when you respawn, your max life/mana are 20% of their normal values, and stay that way for approximately 20 seconds (don't remember the exact number).  This way, in combat rezzes aren't a tactic, they're a necessity.  Another thing, you also get a debuff which makes it so you can't use any abilities as long as you are within a certain radius of a boss mob.  This prevented just zerging mobs down by running back after death.
