Possible alternate Funding

A comment was made over at MMORPG ( on phone can't link atm ) about Pantheon being funded very differently and his not at libirty to go into details. This suggested that there is another avenue other than crowd funding possibly happening. I understand that details of who how and why might be kept from us but if this is correct will we find out any details in the near future ? I was looking at starting up my Sub again but would like to know about this possible alternate funding before i make a descion, just like knowing the facts before I spend more money .

I hope this allay's your concern Zandil.  I read the thread and I do not see anything different from what is already known.  The quote is "Pantheon is also being funded very differently than Vanguard was, although I am not at liberty to go into details.  "  And as much as we know that is true. Vanguard was not crowd funded at the start, Vanguard had Microsoft as their initial publisher who initially gave them about 30 Million.  Pantheon has all along been seeking investors because crowdfunding alone cannot support them based on past crowdfunding ventures.

Thank you for linking that Zandil, I have been busy and not reading a lot of MMORPG.com lately so that was a good thread to read I appreciate it.

If a sub is a concern for you, I would hold off until Sept/Oct which is when they announced more information will be revealed.

Zarriya nailed it, I had read it also, it was just a comparison to VG's funding, basically crowd funding vs MS/SOE investment funding are very different methods both with their own pros and cons as I'm sure a lot of you can imagine.

The "not at liberty to go into details" is just a polite way to say that we won't be discussing internal business/finances in public until we are ready, it is a very standard statement that shouldn't be mistaken for anything else.

If you want to resubscribe, go for it mate, if not, then that is fine also! We appreciate any support that we get from you guy's and would never expect it or try to force it. :)

On a side note, how is the Pantheon contingent over at MMORPG.com?  Is it mainly those that hangout here?  Or is it packed with trolls ripping everything without cause?  I've pretty much sworn off the site but I would consider checking out the boards again if there were some thought provoking discussions rather than mind numbing babble.

    Heya Zandil.

I thought long and hard before committing not only my hard earned coin but also my time into this community back in April.   I was living under a rock in 2014 and missed the Kickstarter campaign entirely.   I was definitely a late joiner but I have zero regrets.

Here's what I can tell you that Kilsin won't say out loud.  Pantheon is showing nothing but positive signs.

    1.  VRI's team is growing.  Brad has been pulling in some awesome new talent to complement the folks who were already hard at work.

    2.  We're getting honest, realistic feedback from VRI, with the player community and the devs engaged in a very healthy dialogue.  There haven't been any promises made that couldn't be kept and the devs are doing great at the impossible job of keeping the player community informed while balancing the need for protecting VRI's intellectual property or talking about things that aren't gelled enough to release.   Anyone can make wild promises of great things to come, it's another thing to deliver on them.  I have the distinct impression that we're all about to get our socks blown off with the next update.

    3.  In spite of Pantheon essentially flying below radar at this stage, there has been a constant stream of new subscribers joining this site.  As players we have no idea how much they are contributing financially, but based on the diversity of the colour tags on the new names, I'd say there's been a good range of subscription levels.   Scarcely a day goes by without new members on the board.

    4.  This player community is probably the most mature and possibly most rabid group of gamers I've had the privilege of being associated with.  I find it unthinkable, with this kind of community combined with the crazy level of talent and commitment at VRI, that Pantheon will be anything less than a wild success.    Here we are almost a year and half after the failed Kickstarter campaign and the community is perhaps stronger than ever and the game is coming together perhaps in ways that even Brad didn't imagine two years ago.

Great to see you here in the forums, Zandil.   Hope to see you in Alpha and beyond in the months/years ahead.

It is different over there. Not entirely bad either lol.  Sometimes I find out a lot of great information about other games that I am not on top of as much. You find that MMORPG.com posters tend to play/have played/want to play a wider variety of MMO's versus when you go to a website dedicated to a particular game. The Pantheon forums @ MMORPG.com have taken a nice turn around and have been much more positive since Kilsin and other PRotFposters (I do not want to name names b/c i dont want to leave anyone out you all have been great) from this site have been posting more frequently. Yes there are trolls and haters and there are fanbois and there is everything in between, but it is never a bad thing to see another's perspective. Sometimes you have to wade through the muck to find a diamond.

Fair enough.  I'll poke around and see for myself.  That is until I become utterly disheartened with humanity :P

Thanks for the response, I appreciate the info!

I'm going to assume that is because there is a much larger number of people on the boards than here?  And likely more differing views, whereas here most of us seem to at least have a similar idea of what we want Pantheon to be.

That is usually because you guys don't spread lies and rumours or post wild opinions that start panic or hatred of us lol

Most of our replies that are more detailed are just to set the record straight and clear up any confusion or hearsay because a lot of people read those opinions and wild hearsay stories ;)

All of our actual official releases will always be given to you guys first on here and our official FB page plus via Twitter linking to either here or Twitter :)

Lawl.  Yea I gave it a shot over there for about an hour this morning... it was a quick visit :P  Everything seems to devolve so quickly into all out war.  Pretty disheartening really :/  So much hate (and ignorance sadly)!  I will say, I'm looking forward to the September/October update and the increased flow of discussion to follow here.  Hopefully we get a little class info to chew on too ;D

We could start spreading lies and rumors if that'd help :)

How about: Pantheon to be funded via in-game political ads. That should start a panic :)

I probably shouldn't even joke about stuff like that.

Great, you guys have done it now.  Got me to thinking outside the box so to speak.

You want a more harsh death penalty?  How about this: you die you have to sit through 2 minutes of commercials for things like Viagra and calcium supplements (because 'old-school' players are obviously old, no?).  That way death will be extremely painful and Pantheon gets some extra funding.  Win/win for all!

Edited after the coffee kicked in--How about in order to spawn a named mob your group or raid must sit through a picture montage of sad-eyed developers chained to desks or in tiny cubicles, without any booze to drink as Sarah McLachlan's music plays?  Give now to relieve the suffering of these poor devs.  Your small donation can supply cheap booze to a deserving dev today.

Give me time, I can think of more!

Throughout 2014, Brad posted numerous times that he was looking for angel investors. Post like that have since stopped. There are also a few finance oriented people listed as team members with no detail to what they do with a company this small.

With those things noted I would guess that they have found someone investing a small amount into the game to at least help them get to the point of having a playable alpha. Investors want to make a return on their money, but getting to the point of proving the product will ship is extremely important before they can invest larger dollar amounts.

I'm not at liberty at this point to talk about additional funding, but I can say that crowdfunding has and continues to be a big part of what's enabled us to start and continue developing Pantheon.  That said, as we've said from the very inception, by no means do we expect crowdfunding to provide enough to complete development.

Say what you will but i feel vindicated ;)  Glad to see things are moving forward for the Team and can't wait to see it sooner rather than later.

P.S see what happens when i'm bored at work.
