Hornet: rigged and animated

Hornet: rigged and animated is reported in the Development Tracker .
A wasp I have no issues with, and a bee is the cutest little gal, but the hornet, they can go to H E double hockey sticks for all I care.
The hornets are a creature I hate and they have always generated a shiver of disquiet. Even in an animated format, I enjoy the displeasure. So I'm glad they have one enemy that I hope will be summoned by felling a tree or surprise me in some other way .
Anyhoo, what creepy baddies do you have a loving distain for? Spiders? Worms? Skar? Let me know.

Grimseethe, I know there is a sound or shape of shadow, maybe the click and scrape of claw that will tease the hairs on the back of your neck to rise. Have you never read a book or poem that gave you that nice tingle? Has no audio recitation stimulated you to a hyper alert state? No lover whisper into your ear, "roll over, I want to try something"? The culmination of the audio, lighting, story, music and visuals will all combine in the game to bring forth emotions, the group you will be playing with will have a reaction, the challenge with be risky. The game will be fun even if the art style is not as gritty as you want.
So, back to the topic of fear and creatures you lovingly loathe. Lizards of a particular size I don't really like, they are little dinosaurs and I know 82 million years ago a terrible lizard ate my great-uncle Pete.

No particular mob has ever given me the creeps, so to speak, but every time I went into the "next level-zone" I felt that sense of dread, hairs stand up on the back of my neck, looking around constantly and carefully knowing that there be yellows and reds that are KoS, about.

If they wanted to make a mob that would creep me out, it would be an evil little doll. This little guy would be creepy to see in game.

Very true. This art style cannot really make creepy, scary or nightmare inducing imagery. Maybe if we get better atmospherics, lighting effects, etc that might make the environment creepier. Personally, in ever MMO I've played it is never the actual visuals that was scary but it was the unknown, the hidden, that was scary. Case in point: First trip ever into RunnyEye in EQ1. The entrance was dark and you could see nothing but what you heard though? The sounds of far off battles, goblin casters screaming, swords clashing, etc. It made you start wondering just WTF was going on in those dark tunnels.

EDIT: For me, it is more so what you don't see that is creepier and scarier, not knowing what is around the next corner or behind that door.

I'm trying to get people to expose their phobias so that I can keep the option open of mailing them unsettling packages of spiders or whatnot, stay on point people.

Jump scares are a boo, ominous threats get applause. Etc

Agree. Have you seen the mobs that Eternal Tombs had in their short video about a month ago. At the end they had this spider thing and omg, it was gross. That's what looks good. Gross stuff.

Suspense, and anticipation have always generated the most fear in books, movies and eventually games for me. The most scared I ever got from watching something on the tube was a couple minute scene of a fairly traditional motif. The hero had his foot stuck between some rocks while a scary monster - in a pretty hokey rubber suit - was slowly approaching for the kill. Now, I'd likely laugh at such a production. But the director knew just how to cut back and forth from the hero's desperate struggling to the monster's slow, lumbering approach. He knew just how long to keep us anticipating. Of course the hero escaped at the last moment. That was the closest I've ever come to having to cover my eyes and not look.

The important thing is how they introduce these things. A giant hornet or giant spider in an MMO that you pull to your group isn't that scary. But imagine if you couldn't see the hornet, but could hear it in your headphones/speakers. Then a red flash on your screen as you loose a little HP and get a minor debuff. The buzzing sound fades in and out as you look for it. After a few seconds of spinning and looking for the threat the buzzing gets louder and the swarm surrounds you, small black dots crossing your vision. The flashes get faster and the debuffs more intense. Do you dive into the water? Do you take a fireball to the face to kill the swarm? Does your wizard let loose a mighty wind that knocks you back and disorients the swarm? Do you have a special repellent you can obtain before entering the hornet's territory?

I know this isn't a survival horror game but little things can add some fear element. How about you're pursued through a cave and using HDRP you are seamlessly loaded into a maze where no matter how fast you run you can't escape your pursuer until you escape the maze. The maze itself could be a "subzone" that is procedurally generated when you trigger it. That sounds like a post-launch feature but seems technically possible.
