DPS Diversity?

    Hello Everyone,

I read a bit and watched videos of the game and it's been said many times that the class specialisation will seems to be very, ... subtle.
As in: if you play a tank, you will just tank, if you play healer you will be only healing (when I mean only, I mean you won't be accepted as being efficient in a different role).

However I would like to play DPS but the kind of DPS I like are Berserker (See DAoC) or Magic DoTs caster. However it seems the game does not have either style as DPS.
Shaman were said to be the dot masters but are more of a healer and the Direlord or Warrior (for the berserker part) would only be tank.
Sadly I am not really interested in the current DPS  classes (rogues, ranger, nuke wizz,).

So what would be my best bet ? Play a non DPS class or just wait for the game to have more classes?
Or did I misunderstood and classes will have more diversity?

Have you looked into the Enchanter? It has some DoT's and seems to be the currently crowd control focused class. It sorta breaks the trinity. Either that or I suggest branching out and try new stuff, that is what I intend to do, I never tanked and always mained a DPS so with a new and fresh game like this I'll try out tanking, you could try the shaman too of course. Ultimately I can't tell you what you would like and just remember this game is in pre-alpha, so picking a main right now may be a bit early.

Your best bet is to try out some of the classes first before making a decision. Otherwise an option is to have a healer friend you can tag along with, and play a dps-heavy shaman (while supporting the main healer).

I'd say give Ranger a go if you liked the DAoC Berserker. Dual wielding DPS mix of melee/range where you have to weave between the two for optimal damage, backed by various beastial abilities. They aren't a pet class or anything (their "pets" are just flavorful single fire abilities, no micromanagement required).

Thank you for your reply, I suppose I'll try as many classes as possible when I got access to the game, but I am tired of seeing over and over again the same, Rogue, Ranger, Wizard as main DPS for most game with no variety.
The Direlord looks fun but isn't DPS, ... :( anyhow we'll see in the future.

Perhaps seek to welcome diversity within yourself as well so that you can appreciate playing roles outside of pure DPS.  :P

I actually think Summoner might be the class for you it is the most unique class in Pantheon that can have many different roles depeding on what pet you use. It also has all kinds of interesting utility spells and overall seems like if you want something different from the usual its the class you should be looking at! I plan on being a Paladin as I love have always loved that class, but in this game it was a hard pick because Summoner just has so many interesting mechanics that I have never seen before in a MMO.

I actually have played a lot of different roles as well (SK in EQ 1 and 2, Warrior in Wow) and melee DPS is probably the ones I played the least because I have never really been attracted by Rogues.
In DAoC I have pretty much played all roles in RvR (Tanks, Melee DPS, Healer, DPS Caster).

So me wanting to DPS is actually me changing my usual role :)
