I was thinking it would be nice to hear a little tune that played when you died in pantheon.... Sorta like a wwwaaaa waaaa as heard in this video:

hehe, I think it would be kind of funny... But most importantly when your friends ask you how you're doing you could phonetically tell them.

Would be interesting to have something like Coin of Fate from Final Fantasy:

slightly ominous, dark, but at the same time calming.

Have it play until you /release or get resurrected, at which point the music fades out slowly.

    Just a thought :P

I hope they steer clear from "kind of funny" no offense hehe.

I'd much prefer something dark and awesome.

Gotta agree here. I think it's important that the overall "mood" of the game be consistent, which in this case, tends to be a pretty serious tone.

@Bazgrim, while sad-trombone is probably not tonally ideal, whatever they do will become funny by way of association - eventually.  I hope.  Gamerchick will just have a more difficult phonetic challenge.

EQ had it's "Ding!" when you levelled.

Maybe Pantheon can have a "Dong!" when you die?

Hehehehe.  I instantly thought of a small gong ringing.

EQOA had a really cool sort of ghostly breath-like scream/moan for a death sound. Not funny at all, but very appropriate to the seriousness of dying.

How about a fade to black screen with a fade-in bloody red message : "You died"

Or text over “The Ranger has been spared“ or “Your sacrifice has appeased the gods, chance of epic increased by 5%”

Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer. (Props if you get the reference. ;p )

But just in case you don't:

I like the silly idea.  There's enough seriousness to go around.  But that doesn't mean it has to be overt.  What if you make it way over the top dark and ominous that it's a joke in itself. That would be perfect.

Ding! was a joke on how corny the lvl up sound was on EQ. Those are the best and most lasting things.

Would be nice to be able assign  a sound to a limited number of special ingame events. pre chosen by the Devs.. Not a lot...just a select important few.

That way when someone dies ( levels, discovers a perception item) I might hear somthing different than my groupmate.

The only thing sorta comical that I would want would be the old cackling skeeltons maybe.

I think maybe we should ask ourselves, what sound would pain and suffering make, or make us make?

Maybe a gasping into a last gasp where the lungs aren't getting air at all.

    Maybe something alone these lines:

^This one if there's a moment of that zero HP state. Pain and suffering trying to strike you essentially.

^Those two for actual expiring without direct damage from combat or spells. I think these would be interesting if other players could hear them play as well, maybe for party members. Maybe clerics could make use of it somehow?

^Ended by direct damage to person that just wallups you into the afterlife.

Use the EQ Ding sound, played in reverse! It would be very viable if you lose a level, hehe.
