A nice short question today

Amsai said: I can agree with many of these answers. If not the specific circumstances (XI vet here). But my simple answer is that VR is the only company making a game that reminds me of the game I spent 10 years + playing. I game I want to play! The type of game maybe I can play another 10+ years.

Well said, I don't have the tenure you have, but wish to spend the next ten years in Pantheon.

I believe in the same core tenets of the game that you guys do.  I believe Brad is blessed with the vision and talent to create alternate worlds that seem to come alive and are full of adventure.  The team Brad has beside him for Pantheon is extremely passionate about what they do and they have the same flame as Brad to treat this game as if it were the last one ever to be made.  I believe each and every one of you guys at VR feel that Pantheon has become a part of you and therefore it means that much more to you in seeing it succeed.  That passion and drive from you guys is what keeps me stoked,  Keep up the great work ! :)

You know, I was asking myself this question a week or so ago. Why did I put $$ down on a game that isn't even available to play yet? Either I have more money than I need (I don't) or I was willing to do something I have rarely done in my life: take a gamble on the unknown.

I do not gamble. I have never been in a casino that was play for real money. Hell, I seldom bet someone a Coke on a bet. I'm just frugal with my money.

However, after following your Kickstarter attempt and the subsequent reboot...after reading the tenets...after browsing through the forums, even though I couldn't reply. After all that time, I kicked in on the Knight's Pledge (or whatever it's called these days). Here's why.

    1. EQ1. I know this game will not be EQ1. Glad that it isn't going to be, I want a game that has its own flavor, so to speak. However, there is enough of what's going to be in PROTF that was in EQ1, so that's a big plus for me. EQ1 was my favorite MMO, with AC1 following close behind.

    2. The staff. You guys are, to put it simply, awesome. You don't sugar coat ****, you keep us informed (although some think you should do more, I think it's fine so far) and you have made a world, from what I can see and/or read, that I want to spend years in.

    3. Brad. Loved EQ1, loved Vanguard (despite its many technical flaws). Brad is involved in most of the MMO games I have truly enjoyed.

    4. Home. Most MMOs these days don't feel like home to me. They feel like a place I spend 3 to 6 months in and then move on. I might be wrong, but I am getting the strong feeling that I will be spending years in Terminus. I do hope so...

Keep up the great work, guys. Make the game you promised to make. Don't cave in to the naysayers. You don't have to have 10 Million subscribers to be successful (although I'm sure you'd like the financial rewards of such) but I am sure there are enough of us around to keep you employed for quite awhile.

Because I've played and tested McQuaid games before,  I believe that this team can do it again, and bring us the type of gaming challenges that have been distinctly missing from online games for the last decade or more.   Because for me,  I will have come full circle from 1999 to present,  once again playing a game that challenges, scares and entrigues,  and makes of me,  a thinking gamer.  :)

I answered on Facebook earlier but will here too...

All you have to do is get on Twitch and see all the games available that are in their Beta stage.  It is like every game company is trying to make the quick dollar.  I talk to numerous friends / people in the forums and it seems everyone is lost when it comes to a game they can call home.

We are passionately following because we truly believe you have identified this need and are giving us the game we can play for many years to come!

You see I'm a huge fan of the word soon... something about it brings me back to my child hood, i would ask my father "when are you going to leave the bar and pick me up from school?" he'd reply "soon". I'd ask my mother "When will you get off the street corners and come home and take care of my 6 brothers and sisters?" she'd reply "soon". I'd ask my uncle "when will i have to stop showing on the doll where you touch me?" he'd reply "soon". See something about the word soon brings me back to my happy childhood were i get gitty and excited =-). So i follow PRF for all the soon(s).

I started to follow after I saw a gameplay stream a few months back.
Something about the racial art style, the pace of combat and the open world dungeons convinced me that the game has the potential to be great.
    With real emphasis on teamplay
And the emphasis on environmental awareness, which made many of the oldschool games so great.
I've been thinking a lot before I decided to support the game ,about the things that would be required to make an awesome MMO
Many of the things that came to mind are featured in this game thus far.So here we are <3

    In a word, Hope.

Plus the fact that the community represented in these forums is a community that is like-minded to me.

Bonus: that this is a small representative of the overall community and that these people post at different times. To me this also means at any time I log in there will be a good pressence of like-minded people in game.

For a game that hasn't been released yet! (see: Hope)

Because I accidentally pledged $100, so know I have to commit. lol kidding.

I was reflecting back on EQ and how much fun I had and searched for MMO games in development. When I came across Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen it caught my attention with the visual cues in the art resembling EverQuest. Read a little bit and looked to see who was working on the game and seen Brad McQuaid as a head figure within the company and knew I had to give it a chance. I am also taking the oppertunity to be apart of a small and growing community.

My wife (a Fine and Very Dangerous Ranger) and I are looking forward to a game that has the possibility of bringing back a style of gaming that is lost right now. We are over our EQ addiction now, but it was a wonderful 5 years; we hope to fall off the wagon.

Because EQ concept and gameplay is the only MMO concept I really enjoyed to play in the last 15 years I have been playing MMOs and the only MMO type/experience I really miss. I tried most MMO out there since then and always eventually quit disapointed/unsatisfied after a while. I enjoyed EQ2 as well but way less than EQ1. I loved VG much more than EQ2 and almost as much as I loved EQ1 but I was quite disapointed with the unfinished parts. I was in the VG beta for 7 months before it came out and we did our best to help during that time but the game was released too soon IMHO and what was ok during beta wasn't ok after release. Getting at the last step of dungeons like the gnome dungeon in VG ie which was quite challenging and fun to find out that we couldn't get the reward from the final chest due to a bug that you said will be corrected "eventually" / "one day" was what made my guild and I stop as a dungeon crawler guild to play VG the year after it was released.

But, as I found out that some of the devs here were behind EQ1 and VG, I do really hope this time you will deliver and benefit from your experience good and bad from the past to make something as good as EQ1 but more up to date to today standard and hopefully not as buggy/unfinished as VG was at release. I'm betting on that now with my pledge and do hope to have made a good bet. I'm ready to help again like I did quite actively with VG beta and do hope this time you will listen to testers and not release if it's not ready. Time will tell :)

You are, accordingi to everything mentioned by Brad, yourself and others at VR, a game that harkens back to the early days of the MMO where developers made decisions not based upon dollar signs or potential market saturation or accounting spreadsheets, but based upon things they themselves want to see in a game. The only other company to do this well is CCP Games with EVE Online.

Brad and the early Verant developers gave me difficulties to overcome, setbacks and numerous frustrations but through those came an unparalleled sense of accomplishment, a true sense of pride and identifying with my character, her achievements and successes.  Brad and Verant did not give me anything.  I had to earn it.  Brad and VR are telling me, so far, that I will have to earn it again.  I want that.  I want it so much I've donate more money to this game than I've spend on games in my entire gaming history going back to Ultima Oline (not counting hardware..just the games and subscriptions.)

If I end up disappointed, this will be the end of my gaming 'life'.  I see nothing else out there that I even remotely attracts my interest.

Followed and supported cause in the old kickstarter it seemed like eq1 with modern graphics. Now as a lot of things seem to have changed, I keep following, but play and support p99.

I would suggest making the game you originally intended to.

Listening to forums during development has been a deathknell for countless mmos over the past decade.

Mostly because I think Brad can deliver a game that EQ fans want. #becauseofBrad (as someone said earlier)

EQ was the greatest game ever and Pantheon is as close as I am ever going to get to original EQ that I spent 8 years playing.

I can't say much about Vanguard. It sucked so bad when it came out. It was unplayable, and was basically released to the public in an alpha state. (had the game been playable, I think I liked the Bloodmage class) I quit VG within a month of release.....

I won't ever the truth as to what happened with that game or why it was released in the condition it was released, but I don't want to hold it against Brad 15 years later. Hell, brad may have had Nothing to do with VG's release date/condition.

I will be straight honest. So far, I don't even like most  of the "art" in pantheon.  I didn't say all of it, hell, so far we've only seen 1/6th of kingsreach (using world map as reference), but I hope the game play makes up for that. If I can play EQ1 on a progression server with 1999 graphics (which means limited art work), I can play Pantheon even with bad art. Art and graphics are 2 completely different things btw.

I support monthly because I know Brad is trying to not have some company like Verant/SOE come in and tell him what he is going to do. I support because I want Brad to do what BRAD wants to do. Which could make Pantheon the best game ever (since EQ1) I will Pledge $300 in the next couple of months (after next stream) and more when I see some real progress. 1/6th of KingsReach isn't enough.

I kind of wish John Smedley was involved as well. I have no idea if Brad and Smedley have a working relationship or hate each other. But, it doesn't matter since smedley isn't ever going to be involved. I am not sure who had the most input in EQ, Brad or Smedley, hopefully it was Brad.

    TL;DR because of Brad Mcquaid.

My fondest memories of MMO's are leading raids composed of players who may not be the most elite in the game. Each class had an important role that made an individual feel appreciated and deserving of the laurels of victory, however many wipes it took to achieve. When that off-tank had one mob to kite, or that CC had to lock down that giant spider....when the secondary DPS had to keep reargaurd in the tunnel, or the guy who liked to fish was the only one who could make the best raid food for everyone....when the loremaster had to siphon mana from the boss and redistribute it to people running low....when the really good tank knew that the dragon was near death and calmly said in chat, "Come to Papa," and the players who rarely got the chance to feel "OMG, were really going to do it!" started cheering.

From what I have read so far, the developers of Pantheon have not forgotten these players. Sure, there will be contested raids or dungeons dominated by The Great, but I think there will be much for The Great Unwashed as well. This is what I believe separates Pantheon from so many MMO's that desperately try not to be "old school."

I think a little backstory is necessary for my reason.

Over the last 17 years I have spent MANY hours inside MMOs. Most likely around a dozen different titles and almost no time off in between each MMO. So I have been subbed to an MMO practically every month since 2001 or 2002. Out of those 16 or 17 years about 10 of them were spent inside EQ1 and VG. I absolutely loved those two MMOs and though I spent considerable amounts of time in EQ2, WoW, and Rift while dabbling in other games like LoTRO, DDO, ESO, Neverwinter, etc nothing comes close to EQ and VG. The common denominator here imo was Brad.

After I left VG I started playing WoW which probably lasted a year or two. I started WoW an xpac or two before WotLK and had fun but it didn't captivate me. Then I went to Rift and though it was VERY similar to WoW in many ways, almost the same exact setup considering their game worlds, I actually had a lot more fun in it and raided a good amount. But still...it just didn't excite me. After Rift I started trying a bunch of different MMOs to hopefully find something that would grab ahold of me again but nothing did. And it was during these years, probably started with Rift, that I started wondering if Brad would ever jump back in the MMO scene and have a big part with an MMO's development.

I believe I was on MMORPG.com and was reading through comments for Shroud of the Avatar and saw that somebody mentioned a game called Pantheon was being developed and that Brad was behind it. I immediately found the kickstarter page which I am pretty sure was already failed but then found the Pantheon webpage and pledged instantly. And that was that. Literally, all it took for me to pledge was to hear Brad was heavily involved with a new MMO.

There is a world out there hidden behind the curtain; thick with adventure, steeped in imagination, and populated with beasts yet to be dreamed of.
Somewhere out there, we will find ourselves huddled together; hope beyond fear, weathering the darkest night.
Even if the world is only a dream, I believe it exists.

EQ and Vanguard are my two all-time favorite MMOs! I've played EQ since the early days and still get drawn back in every few months.

I played Vanguard from it's inception until it's sunset and still miss it!!

I'm looking forward to the third installment!!!

I played DnD before EQ. I was a dungeon master and created many, many a world for people. My own custom maps, everything.

This made me both loved and hated. People were always angry at me, screaming and yelling at me at times even. Yet they would compete with each other to be in my games. There were a few times that, unbeknownst to me, there were actual brawls. I literally had people waiting in lines to apply for my worlds.

I knew something that most GMs didn't... I knew that people NEED major adversity to feel truly accomplished. I made very hard worlds, and when people beat my worlds, they became legends within our group of friends. They even had competitions and pools on who'd win.

My point being... that's still the reputation that Brad has with me, personally. That Game Master who's willing to dig in and say "sorry, you get what I give you, not what you think you want." I'm hoping for that sense of adversity, of accomplishment.... so I'm here because of Brad. Possibly that sounds creepier that it really is. :p I don't follow his twitter or look in his windows very often. (That last was facetious and should not be taken remotely serious, because that WOULD be seriously, actually creepy).

A few reasons why I follow/support PRotF: nostalgia, comradery, progression, and roleplay.
