Itch That Class Niche

    I have often wondered why class specialty isn't taken advantage of more.  I think Vanguard did it well but not nearly enough.  EQ also did a good job, and around Luclin, expanded upon it, just not enough.

    What I'm talking about is those great special spells like Ward Undead or skills like Cleanse Undead.  A massive nuke geared specifically toward a type of NPC because of that class' particular skill or hatred for those types of NPCs  (Magicians could do this with summoned mobbers, too, so let's not JUST think of the Cleric Vs. Undead as we go about this discussion).

    Would you like it if a Cleric or Paladin is a better choice to bring along when going into a graveyard type dungeon.. or Estate of Unrest?  Remember this place?  Should those types shine when it comes to these places?

    I always liked how the Cleric was a healer first and that's what we did, heal.  But, it became much more fun when I did have a specialty when we received our first couple of Undead DoTs !!

    Would any of you be okay with the idea that a cleric is a healer and buffer, but if he sees and Undead, that cleric can eradicate it with almost as much efficiency as a Wizard?  Should heals become Undead DD spells?  Should a paladin have innate bonus damage toward undead to rip them apart? Shouldn't every class have their one type of Rock, Paper, Scissors NPC that they can decimate?

    For sure. These classes should have a major boon against certain types. Allowing the Cleric to suddenly be able to DPS in a group in some very specific spots. I loved this in EQ.

    As you say, I woule love to see this expanded upon as well. I am not sure if every class needs a boon. I mean, why would a Warrior or Rogue have a boon? What class lore supports it?

    I could really only see Cleric, Paladin, Summoner, and Druid having any class lore to support it.

    Cleric/Paladin = Undead

    Summoner = Summoned

    Druid = Elemental

    Maybe the Ranger as well if they are hybrid Druid/Warrior.... but who else and why?

    From the FAQ:

    Will Pantheon's classes have clear-cut roles such as the holy trinity (tank, healer, DPS) or will they be much more flexible/customizable?

    Pantheon does indeed use a class based system and those classes do fulfill roles especially in group and raid contexts. There will also be opportunities to focus each class on more specific and specialized roles, especially at higher levels.

    yes to a point i have no problem with paladin and cleric being above par to undead but not to the point that grps will turn away a warrior from tanking it or a dire lord, or a druid or shaman from healing them, but at the same time have it to where there a noticable difference in having them their, i know that sounds like its a counterdiction of itself, but i would hate to be that dire lord that wants a weapon in a particular dungeon, or simply just be in that dungeon in general either becuase its a great exp dungeon, closest lvl equalient of myself, or for any other reaosn but always overlooked due to a paladin being there or simple just waiting for a paladin to join and willing to pass you up just becuase your not one.  This actually kinda happen in Everquest and cuase the paladins to be almost extinct in EQ1, they had terrible DPS output but very defensive and life saving abilities but becuase they couldn't kill anything in a reasonable amount of time they either boxxed them so grping with one didnt exsist or they simple stopped playing him and switched to a character they could solo with or therefore never to be seen again.

    And im not just targetting the CLR/PAL either this goes for any class that get NPC specific spells, and warriors shouldn't nor rogues, im sure even with a PAL having Undead spells a rogue should still out DPS him for the mere fact that if he couldn't than i could see having a grp being 3 clr/2 pal/ 1enc and completely owning any undead dungeon at fast speed.

    As Beefcake has kindly pointed out, we have at least one other topic directly relating to class specialisation/talent plus we briefly discuss it in our FAQ, there will be more information on this as development progresses but for now, I will need to close this thread and direct you to participate in the already active one linked above.

    Please use the search function prior to creating a new topic as more often then not you will find that your idea/suggestion/question has already been discussed over the last few years of development. :)
