An excellent point. If I remember correctly, one of the 'selling points' about Vanguard was that wherever you happened to be, 'anyplace you can see, you can go to'. Just start running and (assuming you survive the trip) you will get there.
I believe Pantheon is following the same ethos. I certainly hope so.
They have mentioned that exact phrase in one of the streams...they didn't specifically say "you can travel in a straight line to it" or anything, but they did say you'll be able to travel pretty much anywhere you can see. I think it was referring to something we saw far in the background in one of the streams. I took it to mean that the background wasn't just for looks, it represented a real place in the world.
