Been working on a pet project all week...

  • I've been a little quiet (and a lot slow on the updates at Project Pantheon and EQNexus) over the last week while I've been working on remodeling a spare bedroom in my house and making into my MMO-Ready office space. For the past several years, I've had a bonus room with a big TV and a nice computing space and comfy recliners, but as the power of my 3 year old daughter grows stronger, that room is starting to look more and more like Doc McStuffins's play house than any respectable guy's room. Plus, I have a few "unique" pieces of art to display that my wife would never let me get out into a more common room in the house.

    So I set out last week to get this room ready for my gaming needs. I wanted to match the paint color to the Kunark box color (I've already got one dark blue room in the house, and as Notre Dame fans we're pretty committed to the blue/gold/green thing...). Most of the furniture work and painting is now done.

    The artwork is still a work in progress. All I've got hanging up now is my commission from GU Comics that features my EverQuest character and that of my brother in law, who is my long time group mate. I still have many significant plans for these remaining walls, though. That back right wall will feature a replica of Andruil, along with a wall quote of Tolkien's poem:

    All that is gold does not glitter,
    Not all those who wander are lost;
    The old that is strong does not wither,
    Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
    From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
    A light from the shadows shall spring;
    Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
    The crownless again shall be king.

    Then, after 10 years of waiting, I'm finally getting my 3 Keith Parkinson lithographs framed (EverQuest, Kunark, and Velious box arts) and they'll all go on the walls behind the TV. The wall to the right of the PC gets the lithograph of the EverQuest Next debut artwork from SOE Live this year.

    I've got some cord management issues to deal with, but that can all wait until I actually get a respectable gaming PC in here. For the time being, I'm just reminding myself of the whole purpose by displaying some of my gaming treasures. That sealed original EQ box will always be my personal fave.

    And in a nod to happier days, I've got my Curt Schilling autographed Prismere Troll statue. Here's to hoping the support of this project doesn't end the same way this one did (get better soon, Curt).

    I'm really excited about getting those framed works back and the wall quote in so that I can wrap all this up and start PC shopping, but it has been very nice to have an actual work space to sit and and handle the site updates tonight. Hopefully in the near future I'll actually have something to play while sitting here!
